BESSA 2019: FAQs

With just a couple of days to go before BESSA 2019 in Malaysia and Singapore, here is what you can expect from The British Education and Schools Show in Asia.  If you are still considering whether or not to attend, we hope to change your mind!

What is BESSA?

BESSA is the only curated schools show for families in Asia.  We have carefully selected a group of schools to ensure that attendees can meet a range of different “type” of school within certain parameters.  These parameters include, for example, a good academic standard across the board, excellent and modern facilities and stronger levels of pastoral care given the distance between the UK and South East Asia.  These schools do represent some of the most prestigious and competitively sought after schools in the UK.

At the show, attendees can meet school admission directors face-to-face.  This is an opportunity that may not be available, even if you visited the same school in the UK.  BESSA also features a speaker programme that has a panel of experts talk on important issues parents will be thinking about.  Parents will be able to learn how to navigate through the application and visa process and get support from special needs advisors and experienced tutors to help with all aspects of transitioning your child into British boarding.

Who should attend BESSA?

A child’s education and learning experience is of huge importance for any parent.  BESSA was founded upon the belief that it is beneficial for both parent and child to understand the options available and make well-informed decisions when choosing a school. BESSA is a great forum for parents, and their children, to explore and learn about British boarding and how it will suit them.

Parents, as well as children and teenagers, who are looking at a UK education – whether primary, secondary or tertiary – will learn more through the expert talks and by having the opportunity to speak with school representatives, alumni, current students and their parents.

BESSA is a partner of the British government’s Education is GREAT campaign.  We are honoured to have the support of the British High Commission at our events, and were delighted that HE Vicki Treadell, the former British High Commissioner, opened the inaugural BESSA Malaysia last October.

How to attend BESSA and how much does it cost?

BESSA is a free admission event.  Pre-register online here https://bessa.asia/ to avoid a queue at the door.  Each attendee, parent and child (except for toddlers and babies under the age of 5 years) will need a ticket.

What time shall I come to BESSA?

BESSA will take place at the Jurong Ballroom, Shangri-la Hotel Singapore from 11am to 5pm, Saturday 2nd November and at the Gardens Ballroom, Gardens Hotel Mid-Valley KL from 12pm to 5pm on Sunday 3rd November.  Most visitors allow at least 2 hours at BESSA so there is sufficient time to speak with the schools as well as listen to the talks.
