Tanglin Trust School

"The only international school in Singapore offering both A Levels and IB, Tanglin has a well-deserved long standing reputation for delivering excellent academics with an enriching and holistic approach"

About

Tanglin is a vibrant co-educational school representing over 50 nationalities and provides a unique learning environment for children from Nursery right through to Sixth Form. As a not-for-profit school, tuition fees are devoted to the provision of an outstanding education.

Tanglin is the only international school in Singapore to offer A Levels and the IB Diploma in Sixth Form, therefore enabling every student to follow a programme that is tailored both to the subjects they are passionate about and to the style of learning that most suits them, ensuring they thrive and flourish.

Tanglin has an excellent academic reputation. Students’ examination results consistently surpass Singapore and global averages, with around 96% of graduates typically receiving their first or second choice university, which are among the best in the world.

Tanglin Infant, Junior and Senior schools recently underwent a single inspection process by the British Schools Overseas (BSO) arm of Ofsted and was awarded the highest possible grade of ‘Outstanding’. Tanglin is the only school in Singapore to undergo this UK government inspection scheme. The BSO report highlighted that ‘the quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding across the whole school and contributes to pupils of all ages and abilities making rapid progress and achieving consistently high standards in all subjects.’

Through an innovative approach to learning and dynamic teaching staff, Tanglin nurtures and inspires students so their desire to achieve grows. Responsibility, enthusiasm and participation are actively encouraged, and integrity is prized. Working together in a safe, caring yet stimulating environment, we set high expectations whilst offering strong support, resulting in a community of lifelong learners who can contribute with confidence to our world.

Participation in CCAs
Tanglin believes in providing a holistic education and values the importance of extracurricular activities alongside academic achievement. The co-curriculum programme at Tanglin is a crucial pathway designed to broaden our students’ horizons. The CCA pathway begins at Infant School and is an important aspect of the Early Years programme. Moving onto the Junior and Senior school, the CCA programme for students is extensive. The 2023 school year saw over 500 different clubs and societies on offer, 23 different sports played by nearly 1,000 students, 24 drama performances and 1,226 students involved in residential trips. Participation is high with over 90% of students across the school participate in CCAs.

Outdoor Education
Outdoor education at Tanglin is designed to provide transformational experiences and opportunities to develop greater independence and resilience. During the 2022/23 school year, 1226 students were involved in residential trips both in and outside of Singapore including destinations like Malacca, Japan and India. The Duke of Edinburgh programme also saw strong cohorts across Bronze, Silver and Gold levels.

Tanglin’s Enhanced, Extensive Sports Programme
Tanglin offers over 23 sports, and the opening of the Centenary Building has further enhanced Tanglin’s sports facilities, supporting the development of fundamental movement skills and providing opportunities for sporting excellence.

New Facilities
Tanglin’s Centenary Building which opened in 2023 is an impressive addition to the school campus, with aspirational facilities designed to benefit the school and wider Tanglin community.  Students of all ages now enjoy the Olympic standard gymnasium and swimming pool, 25-metre climbing wall, as well as a state-of-the-art Music Department. Located over two floors, the new music department is a central music hub for the whole School, where Seniors and Juniors can participate in individual and group lessons, and ensembles and performances can happen. Tanglin recently launched the Centenary Music Scholarship. Open to Senior School students, the scholarship reflects Tanglin’s high academic expectations and demonstrates how inspirational learning spaces lead to aspirational learning opportunities.

Future-Ready Students
The Centenary Building is also home to The Institute@Tanglin, a unique new learning facility that promotes excellence, provides thought leadership, and encourages discourse to inspire challenge and prepare students to become the next generation of leaders. No other International school in Singapore has an offering of this kind and since its inception, it has worked with teachers, learning bodies, businesses and mentors to help students become more ‘future-ready’. For the third year in a row, Tanglin was named one of the top 125 private schools globally in the Spear’s School Index by Carfax Education and is one of 15 schools selected from the China and Southeast Asia region. All aspects of the school are considered in the selection process. Aside from formal criteria such as academic results and preparation for university entry, schools are selected for their unique ethos, their local and international reputations, and how they prepare future-ready students for the globalised world. Continued academic success
Our exam results consistently outperform Singapore and the UK average. 58% of this year’s A Level cohort achieved an A or A*, compared to the UK average of 27.2%.  The IB cohort achieved an average Diploma score of 38.7 points, more than 8.5 points above the world average of 30.2.

Tanglin Trust School has a long tradition of providing British-based learning with an international perspective. At Tanglin we strive to make every individual feel valued, happy and successful. Responsibility, enthusiasm, and participation are actively encouraged, and integrity is prized.
