St Edward’s School

“Known affectionately as “Teddies”, a city-based boarding school on expansive grounds in Oxford with a reputation for friendliness and inclusivity, increasingly academic prowess and large IB cohort, and steered well by a dynamic new Head”

About

St Edward’s occupies 100 glorious acres in the north of Oxford and is one of few boarding schools in the UK that are set within a city. A fully co-educational school, for pupils aged 13 – 18, St Edward’s has strong links with Oxford University – one of the most academically rich universities in the world. The co-educational experience and inclusive ethos of the school prepares pupils for life beyond the school gates and brings pupils, parents, governors, staff, and the local community together.

The Teddies community fizzes with diverse interests and enthusiasms, while the School’s academic excellence means 90% of top pupils gain the highest grades in their Sixth Form exams and take up places at the world’s best universities. Teddies is one of a few schools to offer both IB and A Level alongside each other at Sixth Form, and in their Middle School programme the School has introduced optional new courses to stretch their candidates at GCSE level, responding directly to the very latest research into how young people learn.

There are 13 boarding houses at Teddies, each home to around 60-65 boarding and day pupils.  In House pupils are cared for by a Housemaster to Housemistress (HM) and Assistant HM, 1-2 Resident Tutors and a Matron.  The School’s highly-regarded pastoral care network provides excellent support for pupils during their teenage years.

Boarders are very well entertained by a lively weekend programme featuring everything from concerts, comedy acts, rock groups and DJs – often major names on the circuit – to informal BBQs, cinema trips and House dinners. The School’s own activities are complemented by the delightful cafes and shops of Summertown and Oxford, which are especially popular on Sunday afternoons.

Underlying everything at Teddies is the mission to prepare pupils for the rest of their lives by encouraging their passions and talents, enabling them to discover new ones and supporting them to achieve their own potential.
