Downe House School

Downe House is a leading UK independent school for girls aged 11–18, offering full and flexi-boarding and day options. Downe is recognised for academic excellence, exceptional pastoral support, and a rich co-curricular programme – all with a focus on the individual.

Downe has been inspiring girls to succeed since it opened in 1907. The founding principles – that a school should meet the needs of young women by prizing individuals and engendering a strong sense of community – remain core to the School’s values today. Whilst proud of its traditions, Downe is innovative in approach and ambitious in outlook – with this reflected in personalised curricula, exceptional teaching and first-class facilities.

Downe House’s partnership with Harrow School brings a proud heritage of academic excellence alongside a commitment to holistic development. All pupils benefit from a rich and meaningful programme of joint academic, co-curricular and social activities supported by the outstanding facilities and expertise that both schools are renowned for.

Every student is valued as an individual – supported to forge her own path with the confidence to be herself, whilst part of a warm, collaborative community. Downe’s immersive experience offers an impressive range of activities, societies and trips, allowing students to develop their talents across sport, the creative arts, music, drama, and dance.

The School’s unique Global Education Programme includes internships and school exchanges across six continents, a Mini MBA, and the Ivy House Leadership Award. Students in Years 7 and 8 take part in the Exploring Europe programme of trips and cross-curricular learning. These opportunities equip students with an international perspective and skills which make them world-ready.

Academic results are outstanding, and each year, girls progress to top-ranking UK and overseas universities, leaving Downe House as confident, world-ready leaders with a network of connections for life.
