Rugby School

Founded in 1567, Rugby School is one of the UK’s leading co-educational independent schools for students aged 13–18, in the heart of England. With a distinctive full-boarding culture, Rugby is home to approximately 880 students. Our Houses are small, close-knit communities of around 50 students, where students eat together and every student has a personal tutor, creating a strong sense of belonging and individual support.

Our educational philosophy is centred on four principles: Academic Excellence, Character Development, Co-curricular Opportunities and Pastoral Support. Together, they reflect our belief that education is about far more than examination results. We aim to develop young people of character, purpose and compassion, ready to thrive in a rapidly changing world. This is at the heart of our guiding philosophy: “The whole person is the whole point.”

Academic achievement, co-curricular engagement and pastoral care are inseparable at Rugby School. Our students achieve outstanding academic outcomes and progress to leading universities in the UK and internationally. Beyond the classroom, more than 200 activities give every student the opportunity to explore interests, discover new talents and pursue excellence.

As a charitable institution, Rugby School exists to educate, care for and develop its students. Our resources are focused on providing an exceptional, rounded education so that young people leave Rugby School not only academically successful, but also confident, resilient and ready to make a positive contribution to the wider world.
