"An academically selective girls day and boarding school in Surrey known affectionately as St Cat’s that focuses on roundedness, with an active and extensive alumnae network"
About
You want your daughter to succeed academically, but also to grow into a well-rounded individual – confident in social settings, guided by strong values, and empowered to make a difference in the world. At St Catherine’s, we nurture both intellect and character, helping your daughter flourish into a bright, self-assured, and dynamic young woman. Central to this journey is fostering a deep sense of self-belief – confident that she can achieve whatever she sets her mind to in life.
Nestled in the heart of the Surrey Hills near Guildford – and just 45 minutes from both Gatwick and Heathrow – our community brings together boarders from 24 nationalities, alongside girls from London and the surrounding Surrey area. Since 1885, St Catherine’s has been dedicated to educating girls. As specialists in girls’ education, we recognise the importance of nurturing not only academic achievement but also confidence, resilience, and leadership. Every aspect of our teaching – whether academic, extracurricular, or pastoral – is thoughtfully designed to support the unique strengths and needs of every girl.
Girls thrive in our supportive and inspiring environment, where outstanding teaching and exceptional on-site facilities come together. Our broad and varied curriculum ensures a well-rounded education. Consistently strong academic results and an impressive list of leaver destinations reflect the excellence of our A Level outcomes, preparing girls to step into the world as confident, capable young women.
We believe that strong values, nurtured through a close partnership between school and home, are the foundation of character development. Essential ‘soft skills’ – like teamwork, leadership, and confidence – are cultivated and are highly valued across all areas of life. Above all, we place the utmost importance on kindness.
Our well-established House system plays a key role in this. It ensures that tutors know each girl personally and that parents always have a reliable point of contact. The six senior Houses provide a wealth of opportunities for leadership and responsibility – qualities that not only enrich school life, but which stand out in university applications and future careers.
Girls have a wide range of opportunities to explore their interests and develop their unique talents – whether in sports, drama, art, chess, debating, equestrian activities, business ventures, charity fundraising, or the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme. Musicians take advantage of the Anniversary Halls’ excellent acoustics and full orchestra pit. Our Dance School provides classes in ballet, jazz, tap, and modern dance, while our athletes benefit from over 9 hectares of grounds for both competitive and recreational sports.
